It was the band's first album on Columbia Records after their contract with Gull Records was terminated, as a consequence of which they lost all rights to Rocka Rolla and Sad Wings of Destiny, and any other demo recordings made during the production of the two albums.The album features session drummer Simon Phillips, as the band had recently parted ways with drummer Alan Moore.The record features a cover of Joan Baez's "Diamonds & Rust". It was remastered in 2001, with two bonus tracks added. One of those tracks, "Race With The Devil", was originally intend! ed to appear on the album in place of "Diamonds & Rust". Producer Roger Glover (of Deep Purple fame) convinced the band to include "Diamonds & Rust", saying that "[i]t would fit along with the rest of the album better." The title of the album is mentioned in the song "Genocide", a track from the band's previous album Sad Wings of Destiny.On the Sin After Sin US tour, they supported REO Speedwagon.On the 2008 tour for the Nostradamus album, Judas Priest played several songs which were never played live ...
